That makes Andre 3000 the 'id' imo though, even though he also seems like the ego at moments. It also started an idea in my head i havent seen elsewhere yet, that has interesting implications. I believe if asked my question, even Richie would agree that it makes sense. Here it is: If the voice in our head we ask questions can be one of two voices replying back (conscience vs ego), then are we not a 3rd voice asking the other 2 the question? I theorize healthy minds have 3 'voices' in their heads, not 1 or 2. Except they all sound identical, which makes figuring out which ones talking harder at times- because we also only hear one voice at a time ever. If you ask yourself should i buy X, the responding voice is prbly ego. If you question that voice again, in a mannor that asks why, the id should respond bc the ego doesnt have an answer it wants to share. We are that 'neutral' 3rd voice being directed by the responding voice. All hidden by the fact they sound identical. He wanted to make his people the richest per capita in the world and was working towards realizing that, although i do see how that is a pretty big task and would require a big ego to manage it all - ego in check though. Then American Egocentric foreign policy killed him. Telling us hes a bad man and then killing him makes our egos happy. <br /> I agree it has subtle religious parts, and even Richie said one scene mimics the Israelis journy with the pharoah if we want it to, although i havent comprehended that yet bc of who represents whom even though Richie says it in thr commentary. He also said that the Egyptian themes were there for a reason, but he wasnt gonna tell. I think it was to elude to the idea that those in power know about how the ego works via passed down ancient texts that we would call mystical bc of their age. That its the secret to controlling the world and has been for our recorded history: make them act from their ego only. In my opinion one of the best movies i've ever seen but thats probably because I have such a strong interest in the ego. If you wasn't interested in the ego then yeah I can imagine it would be a pretty rubbish film. Most people can't even imagine the ego being a separate entity so this would be straight over their heads. The first time I watched it it was straight over my head lol.Johnhttp://www.thelogicalexplanation.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7219610262690146214.post-7944774803522710672012-07-19T20:35:16.136-04:002012-07-19T20:35:16.136-04:00I appreciate the response J.Burrell! Most people just want to be mindlessly entertained and that's OK...I'm that way myself sometimes, but to dismiss a film without thinking about it in proper context is kind of weak! Glad you dropped me a note! I've put it into my top 3 or 5 favorite movies of all time, partially because of my inability to completely figure it out LoL, go figure. not to disrespect anyone, but the few people I've tried to show it to mostly have had a reserved response. But I've noticed that the people who completely dislike it, are the ones who I've noticed Don't like to think more than what is regular functioning thinking. I appreciate great insight, so hopefully you can give me the same insight on my blog as well, being that we are fellow participants... my blog is 6thsensecommonsense.blogspot.com... but thanks for the review, either wayJ. Sam Gold is each persons ego. Sam Gold is the one in control. We don't see Sam Gold, but he calls the shots for us all....if we allow it. More times than not, Gold runs my life. It's becoming less and less, but stripping the ego bare and working on life from a standpoint of love is very tough. VERY tough indeed! Thanks for the response Mike & Steve. This film is a "mini" passion of mine. :-)Freddyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02098690698543400039noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7219610262690146214.post-20898912240682913922011-11-15T17:50:15.889-05:002011-11-15T17:50:15.889-05:00The movie to me appears to have a strong Jewish sp...The movie to me appears to have a strong Jewish spiritual element. The names of the characters reflect a certain subtle intent. The setting for the meeting with Sam Gold also appears to be a give away. I don't buy the reference at the end of the ego, this is much deeper and the references are much older. This movie is about our own enslavement to this world, our greed, glory and addictions. Only through detachment from those temptations do we find our freedom. The casino boss is 'man' in all his weakness, utterly powerless and broken in the end. Men like Saddam or Qaddafi would be good example of this demise. Men found hiding in holes and utterly broken.Mike or 762x39noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7219610262690146214.post-67902208177541142752011-11-09T17:27:09.677-05:002011-11-09T17:27:09.677-05:00Avi and Zach are the guys in the cells by Jake whe...Avi and Zach are the guys in the cells by Jake when he was in prison. In some ways, it borrows from Oriental films like the Kurosawa one that gives 7 views of an event - that sport of thing. The Impossibility of the level of awareness of his :handlers" is absolutely off the charts cool. They are gurus of incredible foresight and depth and lead Jason to his final scenes. Great frigging movie.Stevehttp://stevesnedeker.comnoreply@blogger.com
